Winter Sweeps In

Winter Sweeps In
watercolor on Indian Village, 5"x 7"
matted and backed to 8"x 10"

The temperature has plummeted to the 20's. Sunless, sullen days challenge my enthusiastic nature. This painting captures the beauty of the light within. That's what I have to nurture as my primal fears rise up with these cold and darkening days. It's really not so long till Spring — 12 weeks or so — and there will be warm days and sunlight in the meanwhile. I'll concentrate on that and the work I have in front of me and make time for these little paintings again. When they work, they cheer me up!

I like this Suzanne, reminds of the Oregon dunes under a cloudy sky.

Well, this one should cheer you up because it definitely works! You've captured the windswept look but I can see some touches of warmth still peeking here and there. Just like our winter - sometimes it's so dull and gray and you feel totally useless...but when the sun shines and you get a reprieve, it's wonderful.

Thank you, Dawn and Rhonda. I'm happy to report that the sun was out most of the morning and I went out for a good walk! Our first snow is predicted tonight. We'll see what happens.....

Thanks, Ronelle! I've recovered from the shock of suddenly cold temperatures and took a wonderful walk along the lake and through the woods. The winter landscape is gorgeous and subtle. More inspiration. Now it's just a matter of time!

I think this is one of my favourite paintings Suzanne. You've captured that wintry feeling and one can almost hear the wind blowing!

Thanks, Liz. My efforts, of late, have been iffy, at best. I feel that the golden age of this series is past and am considering how best to move forward in this discipline with such extremely limited time.... But, I'm glad you like this one, that you're out there and you visit here!

To my eye, these recent paintings look as strong as ever. I understand the urge to move on, but this series is still in its golden age to me. Thanks for sharing, I rejoice every time I see a new work of yours pop up in my reader.

I love this one too, especially the thoughtful, restrained way it's painted ... I'm not patient enough to wait and thus can never get those lovely slivers of lighter washes peeking through!
