Rush

Rush
watercolor on Indian Village, 5"x 7"
matted and backed to 8"x 10"

I called this Rush because the central angle in the composition gives me that feeling. Also because it's the holiday rush and I wanted to make something cheery and bright. I am using up as much as I can of the watercolor that's already laid out, left over from previous work. The palette is untried though I'm sticking with just a few colors. Also, because of all the sparkly stuff around these days, I put out some metallic watercolors and will try to incorporate some of those over the next couple of weeks.

Here I use Daniel Smith's German Silver which is quite nice but not very showy. I saturated the paper before laying color in which led to some serious blossoms but I think they're pretty so am leaving them alone. Why not?

I really like a blossom when they work. These worked beautifully.

Love the touch of festive silver and the blossoms - amazing what you've managed to create with 'left-overs' Suzanne!

Interesting adding the silver there - it's not sparkly but visible and adds another bit of visual candy to view - and I think the blossoms in this one work beautifully. I so enjoy seeing your work, big or small. Any snow yet down your way? We're in a rain stage here.

Well, Cathy. I hate to throw anything away — although I do all the time for the sake of good Feng Shui. Still, in order to clear my palette and set up a new one takes time I do not have right now. So I'm sitting down to plunge into whatever I can make with what's on hand.

Rhonda, the German Silver has more of a gleam than any sparkle. No snow, just rain. In fact, rain right now! I think I'll venture out for my Sunday morning walk anyway.

I like it Suzanne, it reminds me of the waves we saw on the coast!

I like the very appropriate title. That German Silver is neat stuff. I love that soft coral blossoming area...it's inviting.

Hi Dawn. That's funny it reminds you of the waves! One of the blossoms reminds me of a shell. I guess that my psyche is never far from the beach....

Sandy! So great to hear from you! Happy to see your smiling face.

Yes - I love the blossoms - I thought you'd done it on purpose! I had no idea that metallic watercolors even existed! (sigh) Just when I thought I had enough art supplies..

Hooray for blossoms! What other medium can do this? Yes, they can ruin a perfect wash (if that's what you're aiming for) but so often they only add to the beauty, as in this case. A wonderful symphony of color!

Thank you, Liz, for your unconditional love!

Casey — from one supply hog to another — ask me before you buy any metallics. I've experimented a lot and can give recommendations.

Glad to hear another cheer for blossoms, Mineke. I don't get them very often but am glad to have company celebrating when I do!
