La mémoire de la réflexion
watercolor on Fabriano, 5"x 7"
matted and backed to 8"x 10"
This title is far better in French than in English. Maybe because it's such a Cocteau-like phrase... or Proust, for that matter.
Anyway, the weather here has been perfect and I had time to walk around Radnor Lake both yesterday and today. I was stunned at every turn by the beauty everywhere I looked. Just as well I forgot to pocket my camera on each walk — I would never have made it around the lake!
But I brought my memories home and this is a result of one.

Suzanne, J'aime bien cette aquarelle. Simple mais qu'il suggére tout.
L'evaporation aussí il me plaît.
A bientôt, Joshemari
Merci, Joshemari. Je suis toujours heureux de recevoir vos commentaires !
Your camera couldn't have improved on your memory painting - just lovely Suzanne. I think sometimes when one relies on the camera to record everything, one doesn't see as much as when you're either painting on the spot, or taking mental notes to put it down later.
I agree with you about the camera, Cathy. it often acts as an interference with direct experience. Thanks!
I'm glad you didn't have your camera with you.
This painting has somewhat of a different feel compared to some of your others. How you created the layers of trees and the bits of color you drop in when your washes are wet. As one of my painting instructors used to say "Nicely delineated and again I say nicely rendering". What can I say, he wore turquoise suits and drove a turquoise car.
Long story short, I think one is great.
Thanks for your insight and nice comments over on my side. Thanks also for joining my merry band of followers.
"I think this one is great."
If I could only think and type at the same time.
Is thinking and typing considered multi-tasking? If so, no worries. in reality, we can only do one thing at a time!
Thanks for your comments. The end result of what I do in watercolor has a lot to with the paper I use. This is done on Fabriano while a lot of the other work is done on Indian Village. I used to label them as such and maybe should pick that extra bit of information up again.
Just lovely Suzanne!
Hi Deborah! Great to hear from you and many thanks!
Beautiful Suzanne! I always love your work but this one inspired me to actually comment! :)
Hi Angela! Glad to know you're out there and thanks for the kind words!
Very fun colors!
This is as lovely and invigorating to look at as your walk around the lake must have been. Wonderful!
Very FALL colors, Gerald!
Thank you, my dear Mineke!
Without photographs to guide you, you have a wonderful memory to rely on Suzanne! This is gorgeous.
Thanks, Liz! When I know that I might want to capture something later, I look at it with the intention of remembering and really commit the details (or impression thereof) to memory. My memory is pretty good except for when I try to remember why I've walked from the studio into the house for soe particular task or object.
Such lovely colors. Reminds of fall on the east coast.
Jean
Thanks, Jean. Not quite east coast but Middle Tennessee where October is simply gorgeous!
Hi Suzanne. I like this one quite a bit, too. I think it even has higher level of precision than usual. This reminds me of an old question I used to ask my teachers: why can't we draw the face of a person just from our memory as well as when we watch that person? It should be possible, at least if we know the person well, since the face is there somewhere in our mind . . . But how to get it out from there? Maybe you have the answer . . .
Stunning watercolour, Suzanne! I think it is far more fun to paint from memory!
Werner, you'll require a slightly more complex response!
Dianne! It is great to hear from you. You know, except for the "my back yard" series, all of the paintings on this site over the years have been, if not from memory then from my subconscious.
Toujours ces jolies couleurs dont tu as le secret.
Bravo Suzanne !
Merci, Pierre, Je suis heureux de recevoir vos commentaires!
Just what I needed on our first cold gray day - a shot of super saturated color from Suzanne! Better than vitamin C!
Hey, Casey! Glad to be of service!
Beautiful colours, so freely flowing into each other, as we see it in nature.

Un tres joli titre pour une tres belle toile !
J'aime aussi beaucoup farewell summer!
You're so good in blending colors.
:( I suck at it.
Painting details is very hard. Good work!
