I know that this looks a lot like Monday's post, Sky Lane. It should. I took the same idea and palette up to 7 x 10". It's definitely its own piece, though.

Now I am focusing on developing weekly series within more particular parameters. If you followed the tail end of my watercolor studies you couldn't help but notice the theme of the path, or the way. I am bringing pencil in more prominently for structure here than I have since beginning Landscape into Art.

This week I am working from a pen and ink form that I particularly liked and posted a while back on Studies and Sketches.

A surprise at Studies and Sketches today and you can meet some new friends at My Great Day.

Inevitably, the light emerges because, of course, you can't have darkness without light implied and vice versa.

I have never qualified any posted image with a comment on quality but I have to say that this piece — especially the blues and bits of yellow — is considerably more "jewel-like" than shows up on screen.

LUNAR ECLIPSE HIGHLIGHTS at My Great Day then come see the next to last post of my current watercolor studies.

How to paint yourself out of a black hole. It's mid-February and if you've been following along, you may have noticed that I had the deep winter blues big time and could hardly stand it. Wait a minute, I thought, I have the perfect tools to rescue myself. So I put my darkness down in paint on paper and this week you will see what I came up with.

Exhibit A.

I did not set out to paint mammatus cloud formations, but that's exactly what developed. I, personally, have only seen these formations in photographs. It's linked in my sidebar, but if you haven't visited, I encourage you to stop by The Cloud Appreciation Society. It's loads of fun!

Close to the Shore
Watercolor on hot press Lana paper

SOLD

I seem to be working in mini series of three for the most part with transitional pieces in between. These series are compositionally thematic or use the same limited palette or have a similar feel because of the paper and paint I use. This painting follows on Friday's "Brink of Day".

There's more daily painting on Studies and Sketches and this week, I'm writing on the history of landscape painting at My Great Day.

Brink of Day

Brink of Day
Watercolor on hot press Lana paper
4 x 6", archival mat & backing to 8 x 10"
SOLD

As of today, I am moving to a five day a week posting schedule — at least for a while. Frankly, I think that's plenty! I am currently working on some larger pieces and want to spend time developing some themes. I'm also working on some writing projects and, beautiful and wonderful though it may be, I have to get out of this studio more! Another project underway is my Squidoo lens, also titled Landscape into Art. It's still under construction but you can go read what I have so far.

I'll be changing my posting schedule at Studies and Sketches, but for the next few weeks, those daily posts will continue. Finally, a reminder that today is video day at My Great Day. Day! There's a lovely surprise over there.

See you on MonDay!
