Good news to share! I sold my painting — Virunga, Night Falls. Good news because I am sending the profits from this painting to Virunga National Park to benefit the rangers who, at great risk to themselves, protect this World Heritage Site forest and all her creatures, including the trees, the Mountain Gorillas and Rhinos.
Read more about Virunga at My Great Day and follow the rangers' adventures at their blog.
And Hey! Come celebrate Helen Frankenthaler's birthday at My Great Day!

Wonderful rich colors in these, Suzanne! Thanks for visiting my blog, too, and for your nice comments. I love your loose approach.
Thank you, Suzanne! I'm so glad you came by.
Really stunning colours, this painting really works beautifully. I love the rough paper!
Glad to hear you sold the work and you are donating the proceeds to the gorillas, well done!
Hello Suzanne,
I come to you as a recommendation from Dianne. These are exquisitely beautiful paintings. I really love the colors and the composition a great deal. I am very eager to explore more of your work.
It is great news you are donating the proceeds to charity. I find doing this quite rewarding.
I see you have other blogs...I might just have to have a peek around.
Thank you and have a Very Beautiful Day!
Thanks, Dianne! Every day I think, I should really move to traditional watercolor paper for a change but this paper has hooked me for so long, it's really become an element of my style. I often forget that I made all but three of the twelve Age of Flowers paintings on this rough and unpredictable paper.
Hi Kim,
Thanks for coming by and for your positive comments. I appreciate it and look forward to seeing your work.
Suzanne,
También hoy he abierto este blog y le expreso mi máxima admiración de sus acuarelas. Son bellísimas.
Felicidades.
Gracias! Gracias, Josemari. I'm so happy you came by.
Thank you for your visits to my blog! You should try approaching Mike Harding or Bob Harris (on the UK's Radio 2) with your music... Also there are some great folk festivals over here such as Southwell, our local one - and loads more. See my blogpost on Southwell from earlier this year!
Hi! You're welcome. I enjoyed your posts on Herman Hesse. As for promoting my music.... I did that, knew most folk djs everywhere and toured incessantly (including through Europe) for almost a decade. Would not even think of such a thing again without a good agent, financial backing and a cheerful traveling companion. But I appreciate the tips, thanks!
more green-gold! yes!
congratulations on your sold Virunga painting and your donation.
Thanks, Dawn. It was a real thrill to send my earnings off to the Rangers and their families. Now I need to generate some of that same green for this ranger and my family!
Your watercolours are just lovely Suzanne - I love the colours and texture and the loose, wet washes. Well done on your sale for the Virunga project - I watched a Nat.Geog programme on gorillas in the DRC last night, heartbreaking - what a worthy cause!
Thanks for your visit to my blog too.
Thanks, Cathy. I'm glad you came by. I really enjoy your sketch posts. You capture an essence of daily life that's wonderful to witness.
My copy of THE AGE OF FLOWERS arrived in the mail. On this snowy winter day, I am delighted to see your paintings in the context of a book. Your colors are true!
Wow! Thanks for the the good report and for ordering a copy of the book! That makes me very happy.
Wow, I've looked at all of your blogs and am amazed at your multi- talents. I also watched the gorillas and Helen's video.
What joy! Tess
Hey, Tess! I'm so glad that you visited! Thanks for the compliments. Your comment link doesn't click through to your blog — wish these different platforms were better connected. But I'm happy that WE'RE connected now.
Hi Suzanne,
As always, I am delighted when a new watercolor by you comes up on my blogroll. Gives my whole site a lot more class! ;-)
I came here to tell you thank you for what you said on my blog. It meant a lot to me. I see your comments on a lot of work here and there, and what you say is always well thought out and usually makes me look at the work in a new light.
Thank you for making the effort!
My pleasure, Carol — always happy to lend a little class ;-) It must be the teacher in me that makes me leave the comments I do. I'm glad that it has meaning and insight. Thanks for saying so.
Suzanne:
Thanks so much for your comments in my blog! I had a look at your blogs and I was delighted to see that you’re also a musician. It’s marvellous you have these gifts, you realised you had them and, above all, you made the effort to develop them.
Regarding painting, I found your comments in And I’ve looked over really interesting. You said things I had also thought over but with different words: What I say is that I’m always looking for unexpected things when I’m painting. And when these unexpected things appear I try to exploit them. If a painting ends up as I had imagined, I’m not happy.
Isn’t it the same discourse, but with different words?
Congratulations for your work, and for your studio: it made me a bit jealous.
Hello over there in Barcelona!
Thank you for your kind words and appreciation — I'm grateful.
You're right about what you say being the same discourse with different words. I can see that you experience in your watercolors very much the same things that I experience in mine. It's really a thrill, isn't it? And I know what you mean when you describe the displeasure in a painting coming out as imagined. When mine look too literal now, I usually put them aside.
I'm looking forward to watching your painting posts.
